Full Moons are often associated with happenings or events of great intensity on the earth. The Full Moon was in effect on 12/26/04.

The Moon was also in Cancer, a water sign.

The Sun was in Capricorn, an earth sign.

The Sun and Moon were in opposition during this Full Moon. The Sun being in Capricorn during the earthquake/tsunami period, would tend to intensify earthquake activity. So, the element of water, intensified by the Full Moon energy, was very strong

There is the influence of the planet, Uranus. Uranus was in a water sign, Pisces.

The planet Uranus, is associated with the shattering of the old, It is often identified with the Tarot card of the Tower, which is of a tower that is struck by lightning. which means that the unexpected is manifesting through water. Uranus, the planet of the unexpected, intensified the opposition of water and earth. Literally, then, we see an opposition between earth and water elements, which literally manifested as explosion between water and earth, or tsunami, which occured on Dec. 26.

Pisces is associated with the suffering of humanity. So, the fact that Uranus, the planet of the unexpected and tragic, was in Pisces during the earthquake/tsunami, would bring human suffering into sharp relief. And indeed, over 150,000 people have been killed thus far, and the number of bodies discovered, continues to climb. The fact that the Moon is in Cancer (in the days after the event) affects, tends to bring out human compassion for the victims.

To briefly summarize the basic astrological signature of this disaster:

Uranus in Pisces, expressing the Unexpected which manifests itself in the water element, is aligned with more water, the Moon in Cancer.

Uranus has a harmious aspect (sextiles) the Sun in an Earth sign, which expresses the combined power of water and earth.

The association of earthquakes with the Sun in Capricorn, is enhanced by the opposition of the Sun in Capricorn with the Moon in Cancer. The water element, rememember, is already a very powerful astrological influence, due to the Moon being in Cancer, a water sign and the trine between Uranus in Pisces and the Moon in Cancer.

 

The Health Care Crisis in
America

Now in America, National Health Care Insurance is a major issue. We must remember that healing and service be the prime motivation for the health care plan – not just private profit for the HMO’s  and the drug companies.  A plan will only work for all Americans, if prevention and alternative/non-conventional treatment is emphasized rather than testing and drugs.  For healing, there must also be love and compassion to sustain both the healed and the healers.        

The astrological sign that rules health is Virgo. Virgo has been acknowledged in different spiritual traditions. She is the Divine Virgin, Mother Mary in Christianity, also the Harvest Goddess. She embodies Wisdom and indominable Will in the ancient wisdom traditions. She is the living force in healing work, and without her energy, healing  will not occur, or be sustained. 

Virgo is practical, frugal, and pays attention to detail. She expresses the quality of less is more. Her presence reminds us to bring more social qualities into our lives, in the way that people used to gather in the harvest together, and celebrate. 

Saturn rules Virgo.  Saturn’s rings around Virgo symbolizes the limitations, focus and discipline in Virgo. Virgo rules the element of Earth. Virgo figures into the natal chart of America, since the 9^th House of America’s chart (the house of Philosophy and Health) is ruled by Virgo. Under the influence of Virgo, we analyze the possibilities, and struggle to pass a practical health care plan. This plan should be universal for all Americans, and provide long and short term care, not excluding people with pre-existing conditions.. The US is the only Western country that doesn’t provide free and universal health care coverage and excludes people from coverage for pre-existing conditions.. And the US is the only country in this grouping, in which people declare bankrupty due to health care costs.

When we affirm Sophia in our daily meditation, this will strengthen our practical vision for living. She expresses a spiritual force so needed in these changing. and testing times. In our prayers and visualizations and ceremonies, we -- men and women alike -- should call upon Sophia for Spiritual Help, and for spiritual inspiration and guidance in solving our national health care crisis.

Bill Moyer has done great interviews on PBS (also shown on Youtube.com).   Sicko, the film by Michael Moore, is definitely worth seeing, particularly for its depictions of the European and Canadian Health Care Systems. This will be a revelation for many Americans who know mostly right wing slogans about European health care.
